3 Great Hiking Trails in the High Uintas Wilderness

Upon landing at the Vernal Regional Airport, simplify your travel plans with an on-site car rental from Allsave Car Rental Utah. With an affordable, reliable rental car, you can begin your western adventure in no time. For serious hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, we recommend heading into the High Uintas Wilderness. The area offers three amazing hikes you won’t want to pass up.

1. Kings Peak Trail

If you are a serious hiker and only have time for one trail, Kings Peak is it. Kings Peak is the highest point in Utah and is located in the heart of the Ashley and Wasatch National Forests. The most popular approach to Kings Peak begins at the Henry’s Fork Trailhead, making the journey a total of nearly 30 miles round trip. With gorgeous lakes and alpine vistas, the views are hard-earned and absolutely breathtaking.

2. Teepee Lakes Trail

For a less strenuous but equally beautiful alternative to Kings Peak, the Teepee Lakes Trail is a nice choice. The trailhead is located about 90 minutes from downtown Vernal and leads to 7 miles of moderate hiking with beautiful views of the countryside. The trail meanders through ponderosa pines, and peaks at a peaceful lake that is perfect for fishing.

3. Christmas Meadows/Amethyst Lake Trail

Those looking to camp and explore more of the High Uintas will want to camp near Christmas Meadows. This region of the backcountry is truly breathtaking! For a nice day hike, begin by hiking the Stillwater Fork Trail up to Amethyst Lake. The trail is 11 miles round trip. At the peak, hikers are rewarded with views of the vibrant blue Amethyst Lake, rocky ridgelines, and bountiful alpines.
